#1 TETON / TIOGA FLY REELS

With the season gradually winding down we recently took the opportunity to review various manufacturer’s invoices in preparation for planning our purchasing schedule for the year 2000. As of this writing, and, to our utter amazement, we were approaching 100 total units of Teton/Tioga (spools and reels) sold during the 99’ tackle year. What makes this even more astonishing is the fact that not a single reel or spool was returned for repair or replacement nor had any drag failed to perform under every possible circumstance. Teton/Tioga fly reels are quite simply the best dollar value in America today. Meticulously machined from bar stock aluminum, anodized, and a self contained sophisticated drag system with a lifetime unconditional guarantee to boot. Now that’s performance at a great price. Feel free to contact us to learn more about this great American product.

#2 ORVIS CLEARWATER WADERS

Quality breathable waders for under $150 ? That’s correct ! Orvis has practically pioneered breathable wader technology over the past few years and once again, in 1999, produced an exceptional product at a fantastic price - $129. By early-season we could see that Clearwater’s were by far outselling all other competition in our retail store by almost 5 to 1. Orvis had literally put every fly fisherman in need of a pair or waders in Clearwater breathables and it is our opinion that the trend will continue for the foreseeable future, and why not ? Great product, great price and an unconditional 4-year guarantee. You simply will not find a better breathable wader value anywhere at any price. Did we also mention that not a single leaker was returned to our shop ? We’re here to answer any questions you may have about this fine product.

#3 SCIANGLERS COLD WEATHER STRIPER LINES

Angler’s are constantly experimenting with various fly lines in an effort to maintain every possible casting advantage. In the spring of this year, Brad Gage, our SA Mastery rep, wondered through the front door and tossed a cold weather, mono clear, striper line on the front counter and boldly stated, "try it and let me know what you think." After giving it an aggressive field test under a variety of weather conditions we found it to be the best performing mono clear intermediate fly line we had ever cast. Barely a trace of memory (in all water temperatures 58-75 degrees) and the powerful mid-head and fused braided running line provided optimum performance from both beach and boat. Throughout the 1999 tackle year we literally sold dozens and dozens of Mastery Cold Weather lines and customers raved of the exceptional performance and durability. Another winner from the company long know for their tradition of innovation, Scientific Anglers.

# 4 ANGLERS’S FITOVERS

Corrective lens wearers has this ever happened to you ? You proceed to purchase an expensive pair of polarized sunglasses only to have your eye prescription substantially change two years down the road. There’s a simple solution to this dilemma. Fitovers are the world’s finest fit-over sunglasses specifically designed to be worn over prescription eyewear and provide maximum comfort and protection from the elements. Utilizing polarized amber or gray side shields and lenses, Fitovers offer 40% more protection than conventional sunglasses and are so unobtrusive you’ll barely know you have them on. During this past season we sold many, many racks of this product and every customer we quarried echoed the same sentiment, "great product at an exceptional price." A true value at only $39.95.

#5 RIO IGFA SALTWATER TIPPET SPOOLS

After trying a variety of different materials over the years we’ve determined Rio to be absolutely the finest tippet material ever designed specifically for saltwater use. The material is absolutely resilient, resists abrasion, possesses superior knot strength and has the ability to turn over the largest of flies in the toughest of wind. We have introduced hundreds of saltwater fly anglers to this product over the past year and have not received a single negative comment. As a matter of fact our standard recommended knotted leader for general saltwater angling is, a butt section of 3 feet of 33lb test, a transition section of 3 feet of 22lb test proceeded by a 13.2lb test tippet of 3 feet. Simply put, the product works like it’s supposed to.
