#1 CORTLAND SALTWATER
QD LINES
Every winter on the event of receiving our
allotment of Cortland fly lines for the ensuing season, I
am always astounded by the number of Saltwater Quick
Decents that arrive. Weve increased our quota for
three consecutive years and still seem to run out of
inventory come late summer. Since their inception, a few
years ago, they have become the standard by which all
other grain lines are measured. These lines were
specifically designed for saltwater fishing conditions
with depth in mind. The 24 foot forward section is
followed by a specially designed intermediate sinking,
running line which allows the head to get down even
faster and deeper than most competition. When properly
presented, the rear taper design eliminates unwanted
hinging that is common with similar products on the
market. For all of our deep water fly fishing,
Cortlands QD lines are just the ticket. Available
in: 175, 225, 325, 425, 525 and 625 grains.
#2 SAGE 990 RPLXi AND
990-3 RPLXi FLY RODS
Is faster rod action necessarily better? This
question can only be answered through an investigation of
ones own personal preference. Those anglers that
are seeking an easy casting, high performance saltwater
rod, that excels in all conditions, however, need look no
further. These Sage 9-9wt rods offer quicker
loading properties, better loop control and a connected
feel throughout the casting stroke, making them an ideal
choice for both wader and boat angler. Once a fish is
hooked, these rods also offer tremendous leveraging and
lifting capabilities. The demand for RPLXi series rods
this year, at times, left us in a lurch for product, an
event that we will definitely remedy in the year 2001.
Sage and RPLXi is the standard by which all big-game fly
rods are judged. Available in line weights 5-14. All rods
are appointed with oversized guides, anodized aluminum
reel seats, cork fighting butts and EVA foam butt caps.
#3 HODGMAN BANTAM
WEIGHT WADING SHOE
If there a more popular wading shoe in the
country at this price point, by God Im unaware of
it. At a suggested retail price of only $59.95, these
shoes offer the angler incredible quality and value.
Comfortable and light in weight (2 ½ lbs.),
Bantams feature a molded polyurethane midsole,
molded EVA insole and a cushioned unisole construction
with padded tongue and collar. Combine these features
with brass speed laces and a hi-density replaceable outer
felt sole and youve got a true winner. The typical
comment originating from a customer after being sized:
"Feels like youve got nothing on your
feet." Available in mens sizes 5-15, felt sole
models.
#4 ORVIS BATTENKILL L
A REELS
The standard Orvis Battenkill had already established
itself as the best selling fly reel in the world, and now
throw this large arbor version into the mix. These reels
combine the great attributes of the popular Battenkill
with TRUE larger arbor design at an affordable price.
They are machined from bar-stock aluminum, hard anodized
to a scratch resistant finish, offer quick and easy spool
changes, and are remarkably lightweight to combat
fatigue. Battenkill LAs have broken our sales
records for the most units sold in an introductory year,
and not a single reel has been returned to the shop for a
performance failure of any sort. Literally every customer
that has purchased this fine piece of equipment has raved
about its ability to execute in the field under a
variety of conditions. As of now, four models are
available from 3/4 through 9/10 at prices beginning at
$185.
