SWIFT
RIVER OPENS
October 31, 2001 -
There’s great news
originating from the MDC in consultation with the MWRA concerning the
Swift River watershed in Belchertown. Contrary to published reports the
agencies have decided to lift the current security ban on Thursday,
November 8th (not Nov. 1st), and allow fly anglers
access to the ¾ mile stretch of prime trout habitat south of Winsor
Dam. This means that the fabled "Y Pool" and environs will
once again be fair game and regulations on the entire system will revert
back to the pre-September 11th status quo. This announcement is sure to
take some of the pressure off the lower river and disburse anglers more
evenly throughout the watershed. Keep in mind that until January 1st
the Swift remains catch and release, artificials only, south of the Rt.
9 bridge to Cady Lane and FFO, C&R above it.
NEFT ANNOUNCES
