TRUCKS ROLL ON April 29, 2009 - With the unofficial commencement of the coldwater season this past Saturday things have finally begun to heat up. Virtually every angler we chatted with this past week was greeted by almost flawless water conditions (with the exception of the Swift River in Belchertown), and in most cases, experienced stellar results. State stocking trucks were very active throughout the week replenishing many of the areas watersheds. If things went according to plan here is a complete record of scheduled visits… Burnshirt River, Prince River and Ware River in Barre (all confirmed); Quinsigamond River in Grafton; Danforth Brook, Moose Brook and Ware River in Hardwick (all confirmed); Asnebumsket Brook, Quinnie and Trout Brook in Holden (all confirmed); Canesto Brook, Joslin Brook, Natty Brook and the West branch of the Ware River in Hubbardston; Parker Brook in Oakham (confirmed); Justice Brook, Keyes Brook and Stillwater River in Princeton (confirmed); Lawrence Brook and Scott Brook in Royalston; Cranberry Brook and Turkey Hill Brook in Spencer; Stillwater River in Sterling (confirmed); Quinebaug River in Sturbridge (confirmed); Ware River in Ware (confirmed); Wyman Pond brook in Westminster and Priest Brook and Tarbell brook in Winchendon. With only marginal mayfly activity on the local front many anglers are experiencing their best results with conventional bead-head nymphs and wooly buggers. To date the only prevailing hatches of note have been early black stones and a smattering of smaller caddis. Anglers are also reporting water temperatures in the mid to upper 40's so it still maybe a week or so before more consistent mayfly activity commences. In the meantime enjoy the near perfect water conditions. ONE FLY Good fishing and safe
