HARD
TAILS - HARD TALE
September 16, 2004 - Now that false albacore
have entered the system many boat anglers have made them the focus of
attention. While our inshore fishery lacks the zest and abundance of the
Carolinas locating small groups of fish in Vineyard Sound hasn't been
much of a problem.
While we have fielded
numerous reports from anglers witnessing mini-blitzes, I have to admit
that the success rate recorded by central Mass longrodders has been
somewhat dismal. A typical theme that has played itself out over the
previous few weeks would be to stage a likely drift (after surface
activity has been observed) and project the momentum of the school only
to have it redirect itself to a fortuitous location. It is tedious and
time consuming fishing to be sure with success often measured by a fish
or two.
BLUEFISH
No problem here! Suffice it to say that if your toiling anywhere from
Naragansett Bay to Cape Cod's north side the probability of engaging
bluefish somewhere along the way is very good. Over the previous few
weeks we've gotten solid reports from Captain Coakley, who guides out of
Wellfleet, as well as anglers probing the backside beaches of Eastham,
Orleans and Chatham.
THE FLATZ
We do anticipate that wade/sight fishing will be slowly drawing to a
close within the next few weeks. All things considered it was a fine
year for "flatz ratzs." While it is customary for the Monomoy
Island Shuttle to continue service to South Beach and North Monomoy
Island until the October 11th Columbus Day Holiday (call 508.945.5450
just to be sure), the time has come for waders to direct their attention
to the surf. This time of year can provide some of the premier action of
the entire season.
PREPPING FOR BELIZE
(Unbridled self promotion)
If you have ever even remotely considered treating yourself to a
sight-fishing holiday to this beautiful country the opportunity may
never be better. The lodge we represent, El Pescador on Ambergris Caye,
has launched a promotion that is available through the end of November.
A 6 night, all-inclusive stay, accompanied by 5-8 hour guided fishing
days will cost you only $1647.50/rod, based on a party of 2 sharing both
boat and room. That's some pretty cheap world class sight-fishing if you
ask me. As is our custom, Kathy and I will be enjoying a week of
Belizean hospitality from October 17th- October 23rd.

Good fishing and safe
