BAIT O PLENTY

April 16, 2010 - Everything is aligning quite nicely for another superb striped bass season here in the North Atlantic. With herring now fully entrenched in every run, and in numbers reminiscent of their glory years, and vast amounts of silversides now residing in many of our south facing estuaries, it becomes only a question of time before things begin to pop.

While we have yet to receive a confirmed report of a fly rod caught school bass here in Massachusetts a smattering of anglers have enjoyed some moderately good action within our neighbors waters to the south.

You may have to wait a week or so before the Rhode Island coast "lights up" but the state of Connecticut, particularly the mouth of the Connecticut River, has been yielding school size fish to persistent anglers. Hopefully next weeks report will contain some real meat and potatoes.

Good fishing and safe wading,
JB
