THE SUNSHINE STATE

June 25, 2010 - Due to the fact that we have many customers that enjoy frequent visits to Florida either on fishing junkets, vacations, visiting relatives or simply own 2nd homes, I’ve decided to publish the recent experiences of Lower Forty customer, Ron Pasternak. Ron sends us the following report…

Jim... Had a good trip to Sanibel...however if we rented a condo in hell, it would have been cooler.”

“Never got into tarpon for 2 reasons: 1. The snook fishing was great... saw 200 to 300 a day... they were really closed mouthed until I fortunately ran into a very helpful and experienced snook fisherman who tutored me for a day (he was full of knowledge, gimmicks and one of the nicest guys I have ever met)... next day caught a bunch using his techniques and knowledge. 2. Tarpon were reportedly in Pine island Sound... however reports also said that there were at least a thousand large (8 to 14 ft) hammerheads following them. The guy said that aerial views confirmed the info. So... I pictured being fortunate to hook a tarpon while in a 12 ft kayak, a 1/2 mile offshore and bringing the tarpon to the side AND… I wound up being a coward.”

“We plan on going back next June is I get enough consult work to pay for the trip... maybe 2 weeks this time."

By the way...most snook were 2 to 3 ft off shore... unbelievable!!! Crystal Sminnow worked great as well as a fly I tied that matched the hatch.”

THE PISCATAQUA
The follow report was filed by all species angler, Jeff Scales…

“ I fished the Piscataqua River with Chris Martin and his father Friday night from their boat, we each picked up a couple of schoolies but saw more schoolies than we could count. My fish came on an all black bunny fly swung in the current on a grain line. The fish were plenty active up top though, next time I'll be prepared with a floating line.”

Good fishing and safe wading,

JB
